Danes suggest that the quieter, more Lutheran qualities of their culture militate against any likelihood that charismatic religion will ever take root in Denmark.
There are small Pentecostalist and charismatic Catholic groups in the country, but at church services, clergy and lay people report that worshipers don’t want any Hallelujahs, and would find that disconcerting. Danes tend to prefer quiet services and shared hymn-singing. Those who are connected with charismatic services say that the volume and ecstatic fervor of these services in other countries are a shock to Danes, who prefer to let the Spirit enter in much quieter ways.
